Collect for the Last Sunday after Epiphany

Sunday, February 15, 2026

O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain:

Grant to us that, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, we may be strengthened to bear our cross,

and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Scripture Readings

Old Testament: Exodus 24:12-18 — Moses on the holy mountain, cloaked in cloud and glory.

Psalm: Psalm 99 — The Lord reigns, holy and righteous.

Epistle: 2 Peter 1:16-21 — Peter’s testimony of encountering Christ’s majesty.
Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9 — The Transfiguration: Christ’s face shining like the sun.

A Modern Mountain Experience — Amanda’s Story

Imagine a woman hospitalized, breathless and terrified, staring at ceilings she never expected to see. She was diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer — the kind that turns your world into one long, fearful question. Instead of a dramatic voice from heaven, she first heard only her own desperate thoughts. She longed for a grand divine moment, an unmistakable word from God. But what came instead were ordinary experiences where God spoke gently — through friends who listened without judgment, the love of family, and Scripture that gradually began to make senseagain. She learned that the voice of God wasn’t just thunder on the mountaintop, but comfort in the valley — the care of others, loving actions that revealed God’s presence when she felt most alone. And in that journey — amidst pain, loss, and slow healing — her heart was transformed. She found peace in Christ that transcended circumstance, and began to see God’s hand in the everyday moments of life.

This is the mountaintop without clouds — where God meets us not with dazzling light alone, but in the whispers of faithful love and steadfast hope.

Devotional Reflection: Glory, Voice, and Mission

1. Mountaintop Moments Prepare Us

Moses climbed Sinai; Peter, James, and John climbed a high mountain with Jesus. In both scenes, God revealed glory. These divine encounters are not final destinations but preparation points. They equip us for the journey ahead — the mission, struggle, obedience, and suffering that await below. This is exactly what the Collect reminds us: that seeing Christ’s glory strengthens us to bear our cross and be shaped “from glory to glory.”

2. Hearing “This Is My Beloved Son”

In Matthew’s Gospel, the Father does not give new commandments — He repeats an ancient truth: “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” We often long for spectacular voices from heaven, but most of God’s communication comes as we stay close to His Son — in Scripture, prayer, and obedience.

Peter’s reflection in 2 Peter connects this mountaintop voice with trustworthy Scripture. Christ’s majesty confirmed the prophetic message, and the prophetic message lights our path in the dark places of life. Hearing God, then, becomes less about spectacle and more about faithful listening — especially when faith feels hardest.

3. Glory That Shapes Everyday Faith

Amanda’s story echoes this: she sought thunder, but God spoke through relationship, Scripture, and comfort. Likewise, God’s glory doesn’t abandon us when the cloud lifts. Instead, He stays with us, teaching us to recognize His presence in the ordinary rhythms of life.

Psalm 99 calls us to proclaim the greatness of the Lord and fall down before Him — not just in sacred spaces, but in the everyday moments where God’s holiness meets our humanity.

Charge for the Week

This week, I invite you to listen — not for a voice like thunder, but for God’s voice in Scripture, in the ways your neighbor shows you love, in the quiet nudges of the Spirit guiding your steps. Let the light of Christ’s glory strengthen you to follow Him down the mountain into life’s everyday valleys. Be attentive to the Word that shines like a lamp in the darkness and follow Jesus in both mountaintop moments and ordinary days.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus,

You revealed Your glory upon the holy mountain, and in You we see the Father’s love.

Teach us to hear Your voice above all others.

Grant us the courage to walk with You through every valley and triumph,

to obey Your Word, and to bear our cross with joy.

Open our eyes to see Your glory all around us — in Scripture, in love given and received,

and in the faithful footsteps we take following You.

Amen.

Opening Collect

Gracious God,

You are not a distant echo in our lives but the living Word who speaks, moves, and leads. Quiet every competing sound within us, that we may hear Your voice above all others. Tune our hearts to Your rhythm, align our steps with Your will, and make our lives a song that glorifies You. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Scripture Reading

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."

— Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)

Devotional Reflection

This week, my friend Holly Martin shared a reflection that struck a deep and holy chord.

She wrote about working with one of her longtime piano students on a simple chord progression—familiar, yet made beautiful by a subtle modulation. The student’s assignment was to take those chords and compose music for the introduction to a movie about a warrior princess. Holly noted that sometimes piano isn’t just about playing what’s written, but about encouraging students to step into their creativity and trust what’s already inside them.

That led her to think about background music in movies. As she beautifully described, background music isn’t the main character—but it shapes everything. It tells us how to feel, sets the tone, prepares us for what’s coming, and influences the story even when we aren’t consciously aware of it. (She even humorously suggested replacing your favorite movie scene’s soundtrack with “Baby Shark” to see how much music matters.)

Then came the heart of her reflection:

"We often say Jesus is first and foremost... but if we're honest, sometimes He's more like background music. Present, familiar, comforting... but not actually directing the story. Background music is powerful but it was never meant to lead.

Jesus was never meant to be background noise. He's meant to be the One setting the tone, guiding the movement, and defining the direction of our whole story.

It made me pause and ask myself:

Is my life being accompanied by Jesus... or led by Him?”

— Holly Martin

What a sacred question.

It’s easy to let Christ become familiar background sound—comforting, steady, always there—but not always central. Yet Scripture calls us not merely to acknowledge Him, but to trust Him fully, to yield the direction of our lives into His hands. Jesus is not meant to decorate our story; He is meant to author it.

When Christ leads, our lives become more than pleasant accompaniment—they become a testimony, a symphony of grace, obedience, and purpose.

Charge / Reflection

Today, pause and listen to the soundtrack of your life.

Is Jesus merely present… or truly leading?

Is He shaping your choices, guiding your steps, setting your tone?

Choose today to move Him from the background to the center. Let Him conduct your days, your decisions, and your desires.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Forgive us for the times we’ve treated You as background noise instead of our guiding voice. We confess that we have often preferred comfort over obedience and familiarity over surrender. Today, we ask You to take the lead. Conduct our lives according to Your will. Set the tone of our hearts, the rhythm of our steps, and the direction of our story. Make us attentive to Your voice and faithful to Your call.

We offer You not just our praise, but our whole lives.

Amen.

Thanks for stopping  by this week

New Grooves in the Mind

The Transforming Power of Immersing in God’s Word

Scripture:

“The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” — Proverbs 4:19–22 (NIV)

When you totally immerse yourself in the Word of God, it does more than lift your spirit—it literally rewires your mind.

The writer of Proverbs urges us to “pay attention” and “keep” God’s words in our hearts. In Hebrew, the word for keep (שָׁמַר, shamar) carries the meaning of guarding something precious, like watching over a treasure. The Word of God isn’t meant to be skimmed; it’s meant to be soaked in. When you meditate on Scripture, speak it, and surround yourself with it, something miraculous happens—both spiritually and scientifically.

Modern neuroscience calls it neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new neural pathways. Every time you replace a negative thought with a truth from Scripture, you’re carving a new “groove” in your mind. Those grooves become highways of peace, hope, and wisdom. Instead of spiraling into worry, your mind begins to default toward faith. Instead of reacting in fear, you respond with trust.

Verse 22 reminds us why this matters so deeply: “For they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s whole body.” God’s Word doesn’t just touch the soul—it brings healing to the body. It renews your mind and restores your spirit, aligning every part of you with divine wholeness. The darkness of confusion and anxiety—the “way of the wicked” that Proverbs mentions—begins to lift, replaced by the light of revelation and the health of God’s peace.

So surround yourself with His Word. Write it on sticky notes, play it in your car, read it before bed, whisper it when you wake. The more you do, the more your mind becomes aligned with Heaven’s rhythm.

You are literally training your brain to think like Jesus—renewed, peaceful, and powerful.

🕊️ Reflection Questions:

• What Scriptures do you want to engrave into your heart this week?

• Are there thought patterns that need to be rewritten by God’s truth?

• How can you practically “keep His words in your sight” throughout your day?

🙏 Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your living Word that transforms me from the inside out. Write Your truth on the tablets of my mind. Let Your Word carve new grooves of faith, peace, and joy in my heart, bringing life and health to my whole being, so I may walk in Your light every day. Amen.
